A dog flea spray is one of the simplest and easiest ways to control fleas on your dog and even in your home.
Signs Of A Flea Infestation
Most dogs scratch themselves from time to time. However, if you notice your dog is scratching almost incessantly – if it scratches itself for several seconds, gets up, walks a few steps, sits down and scratches itself again – you can almost be sure that it is suffering from a flea infestation.
Use A Dog Flea Spray
A dog flea spray is a good choice for in-home use. This is because a flea spray can be directed onto those areas were you know there is a problem. You can spray under furniture, under the pillows on your couch, on pet beds, behind curtains, into floor cracks, etc.
You can, of course, also use a dog flea spray on your dog. However, you will want to make sure that you do not get it in your dog’s eyes, because their eyes, like ours, are very sensitive. In fact, you should avoid spraying the dog’s head entirely.
Here are some dog flea sprays available in most pet stores.
This flea spray, made by the company Merial, comes in a spray bottle. It is relatively effective and kills about 98% to 99% of the adult fleas that are the ones that will cause the most problems in terms of biting your dog. Also, a Frontline treatment lasts for about a month. It’s generally waterproof, most of the spray will be absorbed, and so if you have a dog that goes outside, this can be very useful. Frontline can usually be purchased for about $21.

Do-It-Yourself Dog Flea Spray
If you’re budget minded, you can actually make your own dog flea spray. Just mix equal parts of white vinegar and water together in a spray bottle and apply the mixture onto your dog’s coat. You finish by working the flea spray into the dog’s fur with your hands and it will be protected from those pesky fleas. This is not only an inexpensive solution; it contains no harsh chemicals to irritate your dog’s skin, is environmentally friendly, and soothes and heals any existing flea bites.
How Effective Are Dog Flea Sprays?
The advantage of a dog flea spray is that they are very convenient and easy to use. However, they are no longer considered to be the first choice in flea protection vs. the new flea medications now available. In terms of effectiveness, the anti-flea medicines – such as topical and oral treatments – are considered to be today’s most effective dog flea treatment. Second, are the dog flea sprays, followed by dog flea shampoos, flea powders and, at the bottom, flea collars.
Ridding your dog – and your home – of fleas is easy and simple – given today’s new medicines that require you to only put a few drops on your dog’s shoulders or feed it a pill. So, if you think Fido is flea infested, don’t panic. Help is easily available.
